Laser Tongue Tie & Lip Tie Release (Frenectomy)
Laser Tongue Tie & Lip Tie Release (Frenectomy)
Rediscover Comfort and Confidence with a Simple, Gentle Procedure
At Leesburg Dental, we believe that oral health goes beyond just teeth—it’s about how your mouth functions in your daily life. A restricted tongue or lip (often called a “tongue tie” or “lip tie”) can affect everything from an infant’s ability to nurse to an adult’s speech and sleep quality.
Using the latest in soft-tissue laser technology, Dr. Jose Loza and our team provide quick, virtually painless frenectomies to release these tensions and restore full function to your smile.
What is a Frenectomy?
Everyone has a small band of tissue (frenum) that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth and the lips to the gums. When this tissue is too thick, tight, or short, it restricts movement. A frenectomy is a simple procedure to release this band.
Unlike traditional surgery that uses scissors and sutures, we utilize advanced laser dentistry. This ensures:
- Minimal discomfort (often little to no anesthesia needed)
- Instant cauterization (minimal to no bleeding)
- Faster healing and immediate recovery
- Sterile precision reducing infection risk
Who Needs a Frenectomy?
Tongue ties don’t just affect babies; they can cause issues at any stage of life.
For Infants & Children
Untreated ties can lead to significant developmental challenges:
- Difficulty latching during breastfeeding or bottle-feeding
- Colic, reflux, or excessive gas
- Speech delays or difficulty pronouncing sounds like t, d, z, s, th, r and l
- Gaps between front teeth (diastema)
For Adults
Many adults live with undiagnosed ties that silently impact their quality of life. You may benefit from a release if you experience:
- Chronic jaw pain (TMJ) or clenching
- Neck and shoulder tension
- Sleep apnea or mouth breathing
- History of needing extensive orthodontics due to narrow palate
The Procedure: What to Expect
Your comfort is our priority. The laser frenectomy at our Leesburg office typically takes less than a few minutes.
- Consultation: We assess the degree of restriction and how it impacts function.
- The Release: Using a calibrated laser light, we gently vaporize the tight tissue. There is no cutting or stitching.
- Recovery: Most patients return to normal activities immediately. We will provide you with simple stretching exercises to ensure the tissue heals properly without reconnecting.
Schedule Your Assessment
Don’t let a tight frenum hold you back. Whether you are a parent concerned about your newborn’s feeding or an adult seeking relief from tension, we are here to help.
